chorus

Rules

Ask anything. Within reason.

Chorus is for questions about the world that a public source can settle. These are the lines, and how Chorus holds them.

01What can't be proposed

A market can't be about, or have any outcome about:

  • War and violence: war, invasions, military action, and anything tied to them (ceasefires, weapons tests); terrorism; shootings or other attacks on people.
  • Death, injury, or health of a specific person, including assassination.
  • Private people: anyone who isn't a public figure, and harassing, humiliating, or targeting anyone.
  • Minors, including the children of public figures.
  • Sexual content, or self-harm and suicide.
  • Outcomes you or a small group control: your own business, your friends, your family, a small group's own decisions, or anything one person decides.
  • Games of chance (dice, roulette, cards, lottery draws), and anything unlawful under US federal or state law.

And every market needs a clear answer: one yes or no, or a list of outcomes where exactly one ends up right (add “Other” if the list can't cover everything), a public source that will settle it, and a close date. The same market as one already on Chorus is a duplicate; you're pointed to the existing one to upvote instead.

02How screening and review work

Nothing goes public until it passes. Every proposal goes through, in order:

  • Duplicate check: the same market as one already proposed is blocked; a different take on the same event is linked to it.
  • Fixed rules: required fields, length, dates, outcomes, and a list of blocked words.
  • Automated review: an AI model checks the categories above, whether the answer is clear, the source, the date, and how easily the outcome could be influenced.
  • A person: anything the automated review is unsure about, and sports and elections always, go to an admin, who approves or rejects it with a reason.

Either way, Chorus emails you the result. Screening results are only sent by email, never shown publicly.

03What can't be posted

Comments and usernames are checked as they're posted. Comments can't contain hate, sexual content, threats, doxxing (someone's private information), or spam and scams; everything else, including strong disagreement, is allowed. Usernames can't be hateful or sexual.

If the automated check can't run, a comment shows marked unchecked and is checked again shortly after. You can post up to 3 comments a minute and 10 an hour.

04Reports and bans

  • Reports: anyone signed in can report a comment. Once 3 different people report it, it's hidden until an admin reviews it, who either restores or removes it.
  • Bans: admins can ban an account for breaking these rules. A banned account can still browse, but can't propose, vote, comment, like, or report, and its comments are hidden. Bans can be lifted, and every ban and unban is logged.
